QNX Targets High-Performance Network Elements with Support for AMCC PowerPC 440

OTTAWA, June 7, 2005 - QNX Software Systems, a leading provider of operating systems, protocol stacks, and development tools for networking equipment manufacturers, today announced that the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS now supports the high-performance AMCC PowerPC 440GP and 440GX processors.With its modular, memory-protected architecture, the QNX Neutrino RTOS enables systems based on AMCC 440GP/GX processors to achieve exceptional fault tolerance and scalability. QNX Neutrino also provides a highly efficient, hard-realtime scheduler, allowing networking applications to harness the full compute power of the processors' PowerPC cores.
Designed for high-bandwidth networking applications, the AMCC 440GX offers clock speeds up to 800MHz and provides a rich complement of onchip peripherals, including DDR SRAM, PCI-X, four Ethernet interfaces, and hardware acceleration for TCP/IP. The AMCC 440GP, meanwhile, combines a maximum clock speed of 500MHz with low power dissipation, a small form factor, and onchip peripherals that include DDR SDRAM, PCI-X, and Ethernet.
Both processors are based on the IBM's scalable ""Book E"" PowerPC architecture and both offer application-code compatibility with other PowerPC processors.
