SEATTLE - December 3, 2008 - Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD), which offers state of the art embedded database technologies, today announced the general availability release of its Raima Database Manager Embedded version 9.0 also known as RDM Embedded 9.0. This is the latest release from the Raima Database Management Family which provides exciting new capabilities and functionality for embedded systems application developers and topping the list is a MicroHTTP server.
The new MicroHTTP server adds the capability to insert, update, and delete data within the RDM Embedded database using a Web browser over the standard HTTP protocol. This enables developers to create Web based applications that can remotely access the database engine. One possible use for this is an application to monitor time interval data points which can dynamically adjust parameters. Take for example a power consumption application that monitors the power usage of a shop floor. When the power consumption level reaches a certain threshold the applications makes adjustments to the machinery parameters, also stored in the database engine, to bring the consumption level back within the acceptable range. If the user wants to override the application by adjusting the power consumption threshold they can easily do so via a remote Web application, possibly running on a handheld device. In addition the server is fully extendable, allowing developers to add virtually unlimited functionality to the server.
Another new feature in RDM Embedded 9.0 is circular tables which allow developers to define the maximum number of rows allowed in a table and, when the limit is reached, additional rows can be added to the table overwriting previous rows. It uses the First in First out (FIFO) concept meaning the oldest record is replaced by the new record. This is useful for applications that contain event logs or statistics where rather than letting the table grow infinitely large or managing the size manually, the size of the table can be handled automatically by the database engine.

About The Raima Database Manager Family
Raima released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into three successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM Server. Augmenting the two is RDM Mobile, ideally suited for consumer electronics and low cost mobile devices such as set-top boxes, mp3 players etc. Please find free SDK downloads of the RDM Products at http://www.raima.com/downloads
